Port Armstrong Hatchery produces pink, chum, coho, and Chinook salmon for the benefit of Alaska’s common property fisheries.
Juvenile salmon are released from the hatchery and migrate to the ocean for further growth.
After one to five years of life at sea, the adult salmon return to Port Armstrong. These returning salmon are harvested in commercial and sport fisheries. Those returning to the hatchery are used to spawn the next generation of salmon, and to pay the hatchery’s expenses.
